mayday

    There are still some missing pieces in this one.  A mast, for example, and some connection.  Right now, this little ship seems lost at sea.  Or maybe it's me?  Yesterday was a very bad parenting day.  Unfortunately, there may have been a bar of soap thrown across the room.   Fortunately, I missed the person standing across the room.  Unfortunately, it was a birthday present for K..  Fortunately, it's just soap and he won't care if it's banged up.  Fortunately (hopefully), today is another day.

rest is required

    Here is the bobbin of yesterday's singles waiting to be chain plied.  It's supposed to rest for at least a day, to let the energy in it relax.  It's one of those spinning rules.  One that I don't quite know the "why" of, but that I'll follow, even though I'm anxious to see how it turns out.  It will be easy to pass the time, as this week holds two birthdays (K & Moon), and at least five baseball games (three of them involve being out of town and in a hotel in the middle of the state).  The summer is whooshing away.

    I'd forgot how centering this is . . .

a lot of photos, not much sense

    There were a few days of noticing.  At Moon's baseball game, a nest atop of the light pole, with baby birds yelling for food.  A swooping parent came and went.  We think it was a condor.  Spotted three rabbits that day, too.

    And the day before found a jay feather in the yard, and a little plastic number three off someone's uniform at the field of Blue's game.

    The three year old next door brought flowers, and later the six year old across the street came with chives.  Then yesterday, just as I was taking the feather photo, a neighbor yelled out, "Don't look at the news!"

    Followed by phone calls with family.  There are things going on.  Which drums up things from the past, and how they layer with the now.

    Went looking for the thinnest of thin**.

    It's not done, probably it never will be. 

    Sanity is a very thin thread.

    Yesterday the cloth was next to the felted rock, and so it went . . .

"Moon Dreamings"

     Jude calls this "integration" and "skatching"-  the layering, stitching and blending of cloth to fit into a space- sketching & patchwork combined.  I call it another one of her magic tricks that I'm grateful for, for the way the layers work together to become more.  Deeper, richer, fuller. 

"Drifting in very sweet dreams"

    There's a notebook I'm carrying around these days, to catch all the ideas that seem to be wandering by.  Although, whenever I start a new piece, it seems another imagining takes over.  And I'm loving how things happen without a plan…like that spot of blue in the water, how it perfectly matches the boat above it.  Reflecting, becoming one with . . . I didn't see it until it was stitched down.  Sometimes the cloth knows just what to do."What if we lived in wonder?"

    It's a funny thing, how it goes.  Sometimes so far from where you began.  To places you've never seen or been, but know, or hope, are out there.

    If you're looking for a day dream, these pieces have floated over to the shop.

    While waiting for the shoulder injection to hopefully do it's magic, there has been some brighter stitching.  (Cue up the "whining" soundtrack.)  I'm sure I'll live to tell the tale, but today I couldn't even put my hair up, and had to have Blue help me with my seatbelt.  

    Pink and the rest of the rainbow are helping.

    How to feel older in an instant?

    "You've got bursitis."

    In the shoulder.  

    Got the shot.  

    She said, "Physical therapy." 

    I said, "No."  

    Instead, I got pages of exercises, with the red & yellow bands to go with.  

    I said, "I'll try,"  but really wanted to say, "Bleah."

    I'd really rather stitch. 

    But I suppose, if that's true, for the sake of the Big Picture, I'd better really try.

    Bleah.

memory of moons

    Remembering a play I did with Blue's second grade class.  The gist of the plot was that various planets' moons were auditioning for the role of The Moon in the "Hey Diddle Diddle" rhyme.  On the day of dress rehearsal, the child who was to play earth's moon, who was very bright, dramatic, and wanted to be a "star" . . . suddenly collapsed in a puddle, dramatically wailing, "I can't go on!"  Of course, the show did go on and she and the others were funny and fine. 

    This one seems to be a cross between the moon & Saturn.  Maybe it's a planet wanna-be?

    Yesterday there was walking, talking, and eating & drinking good things with a friend, and lots and lots of quiet stitching.  Today is going to be a repeat of the same.  It's been a great break, but I'm ready to see my guys tomorrow.
