Grace said, "...tell us what you saw..........".
LOTS AND LOTS, and then some.
(Blue "holding up" the Washington Monument, his idea.)
Our usual vacations include borrowing a friend's cabin and lazying quietly by the water, a couple of hours from home. This was not that vacation! We walked and walked through our week in Washington, D.C., in and about the museums, galleries, monuments, and more, oh, my. Here are a few of my favorite moments, o.k., more than a few, apologies. . .
In the Hall of Geology, Gems & Minerals. (National Museum of Natural History)
Harriet Tubman's lace collar and handkerchief. (National Museum of American History)
I believe these were Amelia Earhart's mittens. We also touched a piece of the moon!- National Air & Space Museum.
A Mayan loom. (National Museum of the American Indian)
Listening to Susan Taube Strauss talk about her experiences as a Holocaust survivor, and watching the videos of other survivors sharing their stories . (US Holocaust Memorial Museum)
The folds of the flag Abraham Lincoln sits upon. (Lincoln Memorial)
The Art-O-Mat, a retired cigarette machine converted to vend art! You put in your five dollars, choose an artist, pull the lever, and out pops a little piece of handmade art. (Smithsonian American Art Museum) (Check it out here, there might be a machine near you.)
The Library of Congress.
I just loved it.
Through each of those alcoves are stacks and stacks of books.
A part of the sculpture "Last Conversation Piece" by Juan Munoz. (Hirschhorn Sculpture Garden)
If you've made it this far, thank you for your indulgence. There was so much more, i.e. all of the beautiful artworks. . . but this is enough. The boys would show you photos of the baseball game, the Spy Museum, and The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (Blue says he wants to work there, so that he can say, "I made a million dollars!" every day.)
There was also a little stitching that happened, a new idea that I'm really enjoying, but that will have to be another day. There is Jude's new gathering ("Considering Weave") to begin, unpacking, laundry, groceries, and a broken dishwasher to deal with . . . home sweet home.
