I am grateful for...
the yards and miles of stitch that are still to be done on this cloth.
the kind and thoughtful comments yesterday, and the encouragement and enthusiasm many of you have given the daily squares.
the inspiration many of your creations have given.
for my boys, who usually left Mama alone while she did her square each day (even though, upon completion yesterday, Blue grabbed a calculator and figured out that I had spent about two and a half days stitching these squares, trying to shock me with how much time they took. He wasn't counting on my reaction of "Is that all?").
for K, who doesn't quite get all that I do, but gets that it's important, and brought home sunflowers yesterday to celebrate the last square.
and for Jude for her inspiring example- in stitch, in heart, in continuing. Those who are close to me (and a few who are not) all know who Jude is. In talking about this work her name comes up often..."Jude made this cloth with....", "Jude was talking about....", "Jude showed us a stitch that...", "Jude says..." For a while I struggled in answering who she is- artist, teacher, leader, mentor...none of these words seem big enough to describe what she has shared and nurtured in many of us. Now I just say "Jude" and they know. Her generosity in sharing her thoughtful beautiful ways of being with and understanding cloth have changed so much.
I am grateful.
