I'm in the middle of jude's contemporary woven boro class. The best part of this experience is learning that the world is not flat-there are no limits. This map fabric came to the top of the pile.Thinking of the old maps that said "here there be monsters" on the edges of the unknown- working against my inner monsters/fears of taking risks. Using (even cutting!) "special" fabrics from glennis (shiborigirl.bigcartel.com), deb (randomactsofdyeness.blogspot.com) & diane (artfire.com). I start with one idea & another comes & I jump to that, then another...there are a few needles going at once- planning to boro in the happy beasts from the patchwork beast class to replace the monsters on the edge. So many stitches to do, so happy.
There were questions about how this was put together...sorry I didn't take photos before now. I used jude's shoe box weaving technique for the portion above the moon-cutting slits in different directions & weaving through. The moon & clouds were collaged on. The lower part was wove w/o any backing, just laying on a board, using a flat ruler & pinning as I went-some mosaic bits were added in & started stitching & then (though wish it had been sooner) basting to the harem cloth began and is still going on...
